Measured, not guessed: $0.0019–$0.0025 per study and $0.003–$0.006 per chat reply, taken from real usage logs in August 2026. The study and chat figures cover the AI model only. The seeker-day figure adds a share of hosting and the database. Anything above cost keeps the daily limits generous and funds the next feature.
How we got these numbers
Every call Scripture Compass makes to an AI model is logged with its exact token count and cost. We read those logs, take the cheapest and most expensive real calls, and publish the range. Counts are rounded down and unit costs rounded up, so the estimate errs against us rather than against you. Current figures come from 6 recent successful calls, last checked in August 2026.
- Study ($0.0019–$0.0025) — Gemini 3 Flash. One streamed packet runs about 3.7k–3.9k input and 2.6k–3.1k output tokens, plus a Berean Standard Bible lookup that costs nothing. A repeated question is served from cache for free.
- Chat reply ($0.003–$0.006) — OpenAI
gpt-5.6-solon the priority tier, used for /talk and study follow-ups. About 1.9k–2.6k input and 120–600 output tokens per turn. The spread is real: a long conversation carries its whole history into every new reply, so turn twelve costs more than turn one. - Seeker-day (~$0.05) — one engaged visitor for a day: 1 study + 6 chat replies ≈ $0.039 in model cost, plus roughly 30% headroom for the costs that exist whether or not anyone visits.
What the AI figure leaves out. Model calls are not the whole bill. These run every month regardless of traffic: hosting and the streaming api, database, storage, and backups, domain and email. Only the seeker-day number tries to cover a share of them — the study and chat numbers are model cost alone, so please don't read them as the true all-in cost of running this.
Nobody takes a salary. Development happens in evenings and early mornings. Not one dollar given here has ever been paid to the founder.
Token prices and models change. We re-measure and update this page whenever the models or prompts change, and we would rather correct a number downward in public than quietly leave a flattering one up. Per-IP daily limits keep any one person from running up the bill.

I'm an IT professional — and a Christian, a husband, a father, and a friend. Scripture Compass is something I built with the skills God gave me, made in evenings and early mornings between work and family.
My hope is simple: that when someone is hurting, confused, or searching, they can ask a plain question and be met with verified Scripture and pastoral care — not a hot take, not a tribe, not a sales pitch.
