How to share your faith
You don't need to win an argument. Tell what Jesus did for sinners and what He's done for you.
Start with your story
A short testimony has three parts: what life was like before, how you came to trust Christ, and what's different now. Keep it under two minutes and keep Jesus at the center, not yourself.
Know the message
God is holy and made us for Himself. We have all sinned and deserve judgment. Jesus, God the Son, died in our place and rose again. Everyone who turns from sin and trusts Him is forgiven and made new.
With gentleness and respect
Peter tells believers to be ready to give a reason for their hope, with gentleness and respect. Ask questions, listen well, and leave the results to God. Inviting a friend to church is a wonderful next step.
From Scripture
But in your hearts sanctify Christ as Lord. Always be prepared to give a defense to everyone who asks you the reason for the hope that is in you. But respond with gentleness and respect,
I am not ashamed of the gospel, because it is the power of God for salvation to everyone who believes, first to the Jew, then to the Greek.
For what I received I passed on to you as of first importance: that Christ died for our sins according to the Scriptures, that He was buried, that He was raised on the third day according to the Scriptures,
that if you confess with your mouth, “Jesus is Lord,” and believe in your heart that God raised Him from the dead, you will be saved. For with your heart you believe and are justified, and with your mouth you confess and are saved.
Put it into practice
- Write out your testimony in five sentences.
- Pray by name for three people who don't know Christ.
